MMI has a fully staffed in-house tool room to design, build and maintain injection mold tooling, automation, and fixtures.
MMI has six Engineers on staff to propel DFM, manage projects from sketch to production and build automated systems for your products. Think of our engineers as an extension of your team.
MMI’s certified quality staff and systems are committed to making your parts right the first time from first article through Statistical Process Control (SPC) in production.
MMI’s state of the art production facility includes new injection molding machines, automation and material handling equipment to make your product as efficiently as possible.
MMI has a designated area of our facility for the sub-assembly of your products, kitting, pad printing, welding and 100% inspection when warranted.
Custom Materials, Tolerances and Processes
Modern Molding molds Engineering Grade Parts from Engineering Grade resins. We specialize in working directly with customers through Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to understand your application conditions and needs. The first question we ask is “Where does it go and what does it do?” This simple question helps us work with you to analyze how the combination of design, material selection and print specifications will all work together to promote a highly functional product. We respect that no two parts or projects are exactly alike. We are excited to think outside the box with you to develop the best overall product for your application and the Control Plan methodology that ensure it performs every time.
Tight Tolerences
MMI is not afraid of tight tolerances. It is very common for MMI to work with our customer to push the limits of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) through DFM review, tooling iteration, capability studies and Statistical Process Control (SPC). Anything is possible, if you prove it to be capable.
Make Two Parts One
Modern Molding is an expert in overmolding thermoplastic materials over another substrate. This process takes DFM to a new level combining all of the factors involved: design, all materials, retention requirements, injection mold tooling and process. Whenever possible, MMI works to automate these processes, not only for efficiency but more so for the repeatability and quality that the automation promotes for these applications.
Examples:
Innovative Use of Plastic
Modern Molding specializes in working with customers to review Metal-to-plastic conversions of cast or machined metal parts. This process saves customers money on not only the part, but also in the costs of shipping through reduced part weight and the weight of the equipment in application. Through the DFM process, MMI will recommend materials, design concepts, and prototype methodologies to help our customers calculate a Return of Investment (ROI) quickly. Converting metal parts to plastic is often less expensive than customers expect; savings are quickly realized.

Error Proof Design
Modern Molding specializes in working with our customers to see the bigger picture. We will work with you to develop error proof designs that allow parts to only assemble the right way. MMI has a designated area of our facility for the sub-assembly of your products, kitting, pad printing, welding and 100% inspection when warranted. This area of our business is constantly evolving in both processes and the engineering of automaton. This includes MMI’s incoming inspection plans for items sourced on behalf of our customers and their transition to custom reconfigurable assembly cells. If we mold the part, we will help you take it as far as we can to completion.
Examples:
Circuit Boards, Connectors, and More
Modern Molding has perfected electronics overmolding to help reduce costs and eliminate expenses related to potting later in the production process. MMI developed a process whereby an electronics board can be inserted into a mold and overmolded with a plastic that will withstand the elements; MMI’s electric press provides the process controls necessary to handle this procedure without damaging highly sensitive electronics boards. Testing proves that all functionality is maintained in the overmolding.
Modern Molding is regularly committed to working through the technical and processing details to ensure that customers will receive quality parts, and all specifications and expectations are met. Contact Modern Molding to learn more about this process.
